This idea got started because I had been sexually attacked by a community member, and he continued to follow me. Living in a rural area the response time is slow, so I was told by our local deputy that unfortunately they could not protect me but would be there to respond to the aftermath and encouraged me to do whatever it took to protect myself. So, I started training with some of my law enforcement friends using a firearm for self-defense. Then I started asking about carrying a weapon concealed and what the laws were for that.
While trying to pursue my Concealed Carry Weapon permit I started looking at concealed clothing. I couldn't find much out there that were
specifically designed for women except for waist holsters. So, I asked my law enforcement buddies who were men and women if they knew of any place where I could buy women's concealed clothing. At the time, there was only one option. So, I looked at the men's concealed shirt and got the idea of a holster pocket, and how it could be done, but quickly saw that the placement of the firearm for the men's shirt (firearm hidden under the arm pit) would not work well for my body shape. So, I designed the shirt so that I could conceal a weapon.
One of the biggest complaints that female law enforcement had was they did not want to carry concealed off duty, which they are strongly encouraged to do by their agencies, because they did not want to carry it in their purse in case it got stolen. They wanted to be able to carry it on themselves and still dress up to go out on the town for the night so to speak and look "normal." So, after talking with many women and reading blogs on-line and trial and error I came up with my designs. I have worn the shirts out on the range to try them out to see how quickly I could draw and fire. The design is also so that it makes for a quicker draw compared to under the arm pit. The target goal from drawing and firing two shots off is to do it in 1 min 30 seconds to 2 min. With the shirt I was able to draw and fire 2 shots within 1min 46 seconds with only practicing for a few minutes on the range. It did not slow down my draw that much at all nor did it expose me.
The other thing that I discovered was that there are more women like me who hate to carry a purse when going places or traveling. When I was in New York visiting I used the camisole shirt just as a pocket to carry my ID, credit card, and money. I didn't want to have to worry about someone stealing my purse since it was very crowded in NYC, and we were doing a lot of walking. Because I was traveling I was carrying more money than usual. It worked like a charm.
Although the first design is a camisole with a holster pocket there are more designs to come! Keep checking back with us, and we look forward to doing business with you!
